Postcards from Paros: Stone Streets, Mythical Ruins & Late Night Donuts

Paros streets

We flew Sky Express from Athens to Paros and landed in the little beach town of Naoussa, where we stayed two nights in an Airbnb right in the heart of the village. Quaint stone streets, adorable boutiques (some of the best shopping of the whole trip!), and Easter celebrations still going strong made it a lively start.

Our first full day, we chartered a private boat with Don Blue Yachting for 8 hours, and it turned out to be my favorite adventure of the entire trip—one of the most memorable days of my life (right after my wedding and the births of my kids). Our captain, Demitrius, was incredible and took us to Delos, the mythical birthplace of Apollo and Artemis. I was in mythology heaven. The island was blanketed in red poppies and wildflowers, ruins from temples and Beginning of our private cruise to Deloshouses surrounded us, and stray cats roamed like divine guardians. It truly felt like the gods were watching. I wandered through the House of Dionysus, the Temple of Apollo, and stood in reverent silence atop the steps of Zeus and Athena’s temple. It was everything I had dreamed this trip would be.

From there, we sailed to Rania, where we dipped into the cold, salty Aegean—an exhilarating, soul-awakening experience. Then we made a short stop at Mykonos, meandering through its narrow, intentionally confusing streets designed to outwit pirates. It was charming and lively. This day, filled with history, beauty, mythology, and salt air, was pure magic.

Back in Naoussa, we ate at Marmitta, Kapari, and To Paradosiako—the last one gave us the best dessert: warm donuts topped with ice cream. We also visited the Holy Shrine of the Virgin Mary Ekatontapyliani in Parikia, one of the oldest Christian churches in Greece, said to have 99 known doors with the 100th appearing when Constantinople becomes Greek again.
