From April 20 to May 2, my husband and I, along with another couple, spent 12 unforgettable days exploring Greece. This trip was the perfect blend of ancient history, vibrant culture, delicious cuisine, and jaw-dropping landscapes. We planned it for the week after Easter, right at the start of Greece's tourist season—meaning fewer crowds and more authentic experiences. From the moment we landed to our last sunset toast, Greece delivered everything and more.
We flew into Athens, spent two nights in Paros, three nights in Santorini, three in Crete, and finished with three nights in Athens. Every leg of this trip brought something special:
-
Paros charmed us with boutique shopping, a magical boat day to Delos and Mykonos, and quaint village life.
-
Santorini wowed with otherworldly landscapes, a cliffside hike, volcano-hot-spring catamaran ride, and the best gyro of my life.
-
Crete impressed with its Minoan ruins, dramatic mountains, Venetian forts, and indulgent spa days.
-
Athens grounded us with ancient ruins, a rooftop Acropolis view, and a day trip to Delphi.

We traveled with built-in friends, which made every dinner, hike, and discovery even more fun. I also felt very safe throughout the entire trip, even walking solo in the towns we visited. Athens reminded me of New York City—buzzing and bold—so it helps to stay alert there. Everywhere else felt peaceful and welcoming.
And of course, we raised our glasses often with a cheerful "Yammas!"—the phrase of the trip. It means "cheers" in Greek, and we used it liberally.
Final Reflection: Twelve days. Four destinations. Countless memories.
Greece gave us history, flavor, adventure, and rest. If you ever get the chance—take it. And maybe bring an extra suitcase. I definitely needed one.
