This July, our family embarked on an unforgettable 10-day adventure to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. Traveling with my parents, my brother and his husband, and my husband and our two boys (ages 8 and 6), we explored stunning landscapes, saw incredible wildlife, and made memories that will last a lifetime. Here’s a breakdown of our journey:
Day 1: Arrival in Bozeman (July 4)
We flew into Bozeman, Montana, and kicked off the trip with dinner at Montana Ale Works—a perfect casual spot for a large group and very kid-friendly. After dinner, we strolled through charming downtown Bozeman, soaking in the small-town atmosphere before heading back to our hotel. We knew a big day awaited us in Yellowstone.
Day 2: Dinosaurs & Entering Yellowstone

Before heading into the park, we visited the Museum of the Rockies. My boys loved the dinosaur exhibits, but my personal favorite was the special mythology and fantasy exhibit, which showcased the origins of legendary creatures—it was fascinating!
From there, we drove to Yellowstone, entering through the northern entrance at Mammoth Hot Springs. The travertine rock formations were stunning, and the wildlife sightings were endless—bears, buffalo, elk, even moose. Driving along the Great Loop Road felt like stepping into another world.
We ended the day at Canyon Lodge, right inside the park. Before bedtime, we squeezed in a visit to the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, which instantly became my favorite landmark of the entire trip. The canyon views and waterfalls were breathtaking—truly one of God’s masterpieces.
Day 3: Yellowstone Highlights & Old Faithful

Since my parents hadn’t seen the canyon the night before, we returned in the morning so they could experience its majesty. None of us minded the repeat—the waterfalls and views were worth every moment.
We continued along the Great Loop, stopping at lakes, bubbling springs, and, of course, the famous Old Faithful geyser, which put on a fantastic show. By evening, we exited the park’s west side into West Yellowstone, Montana, and checked into Parade Rest Ranch—a charming, all-inclusive dude ranch where we’d spend the next three nights.
Days 4–6: Life at the Dude Ranch (July 6–9)

Our time at Parade Rest was like stepping back in time. We rented three cabins for our group and spent the days horseback riding, trying fly fishing, and enjoying yard games. My boys ran free, played outside, and fully embraced Montana’s wide-open spaces.
This ranch stay ended up being their favorite part of the entire trip—and honestly, it was a highlight for the adults too. We got to slow down, disconnect, and savor Montana’s famous “Big Sky” views.
Day 7: Grand Prismatic & Into Grand Teton
After leaving the ranch, we re-entered Yellowstone to see the dazzling Grand Prismatic Spring—its rainbow colors were mesmerizing. We revisited Old Faithful, but this time stopped to eat at the historic Old Faithful Inn, the park’s oldest lodge.
Driving south, we crossed into Grand Teton National Park. The jagged peaks were absolutely magical. We spent the afternoon wading in Jenny Lake before heading to our Airbnb in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
Day 8: Jackson Hole Adventures (July 10)

This day was packed with adventure!
Morning: We took the gondola up Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, where we enjoyed panoramic views and indulged in delicious waffles at Corbett’s Cabin—a huge hit with everyone. The boys also loved the trampoline bungee at the resort.
Afternoon: Back in town, my husband and I took the kids to Snow King Resort to ride the alpine coaster—another highlight for them!
Evening: We joined the crowd at Jackson’s famous Town Square to watch the nightly wild west skit featuring gun-slinging bandits. It was pure fun and entertainment for all ages.
I fell in love with Jackson Hole and left wanting more time to explore the shops, restaurants, and energy of the town.
Day 9: Whitewater Rafting in Big Sky

From Jackson, we drove north through Idaho on our way to Big Sky, Montana. Our Airbnb there had a stunning mountain view and served as the perfect base for our final adventure: whitewater rafting as a family.
Even my parents joined in—and everyone loved it! My boys were absolutely thrilled, and the rafting turned into one of those unforgettable, joy-filled experiences that bonds a family together.
Day 10: Back to Bozeman & Home
On our last day, we drove back to Bozeman to catch our flight home to Nashville. As we flew away, I couldn’t help but reflect on the incredible mix of adventure, family bonding, and natural beauty we’d just experienced.
Final Thoughts

This trip gave us everything—wildlife, stunning landscapes, thrilling adventures, and quiet family moments. From the majesty of Yellowstone’s canyon to the charm of Jackson Hole and the fun of dude ranch life, it was an epic journey.
Most importantly, it was time well spent with family. My boys will carry these memories with them forever, and so will I.
If you’re considering a family trip to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons, do it. It’s an experience that will leave you in awe, grateful, and inspired.
