A Family Adventure to Niagara Falls (Canada) During Fall Break

A Family Adventure to Niagara Falls (Canada) During Fall Break

Niagara Takes Flight

There are trips where you relax, and there are trips where you lean fully into adventure. Our fall break trip to Niagara Falls in Canada was definitely the latter—and it ended up being one of our favorite family trips yet.

We traveled October 15–19, 2025, flying from Nashville into Buffalo, renting a car, and crossing the border into Canada. The trip doubled as a celebration for my youngest son’s 8th birthday, and between the waterfalls, outdoor adventures, and a surprise hockey experience, it turned into the kind of family memory we’ll talk about for years.

Where We Stayed: Views You’ll Never Forget

View of Niagara Falls from our Marriott Hotel

We stayed at Niagara Falls Marriott on the Falls, and the view from our room was absolutely incredible.

If you’re visiting Niagara Falls, book a room with a falls view if you can. Watching the mist rise from the falls during the day and seeing them illuminated at night made the experience feel magical without even leaving the room.

After a long day of travel on Wednesday, we headed to dinner at Table Rock House Restaurant, located right next to the falls.

The food was good, but our reservation was pretty late and our kids were understandably antsy after a full travel day. In hindsight, a more casual dinner might have been the better move that first night—but the view of the falls was still worth it.

Thursday: The Ultimate Niagara Falls Adventure Day

Voyage to the Falls Boat Tour

Thursday was our full-on tourist day, and honestly—that’s the best way to experience Niagara Falls.

We purchased the Niagara Falls Adventure Pass, which ended up being the perfect way to see everything without worrying about individual tickets.

The pass included several must-do attractions:

  • Voyage to the Falls Boat Tour
This is the iconic Niagara Falls experience. They give you a poncho, and you absolutely need it. You’ll get soaked as the boat pushes into the mist at the base of the falls. Wear quick-dry clothing—you’ll thank yourself later.
  • Journey Behind the Falls
This takes you through tunnels carved into the rock so you can stand just behind the massive curtain of water crashing down.
  • The Tunnel
    Niagara Takes Flight
A flying theater experience that gives you a bird’s-eye journey over Niagara Falls and the surrounding landscape.
  • Niagara Parks Power Station
You can visit during the day or night. The illuminated night experience inside the historic power station is especially cool.
  • Falls Incline Railway
The pass includes unlimited rides, making it easy to move between attractions.

Another huge perk: the pass also includes two days of unlimited rides on the WEGO buses, which makes getting around Niagara Falls incredibly easy without constantly moving your car.

Friday: Hiking the Niagara Gorge

After Thursday’s packed itinerary, Friday was all about slowing down and enjoying nature.

We hiked around the Niagara Glen Nature Centre, which sits high above the Niagara Gorge overlooking the powerful Niagara River.

The nature center offers a scavenger hunt along the trails, which my boys immediately turned into a competition. Watching them race down the trail trying to find each clue was one of those small parenting moments that turns into a core memory.

A Charming Stop in Niagara-on-the-Lake

Angel Inn at Niagara-on-the-Lake

After hiking, we drove to Niagara-on-the-Lake, one of the most charming towns we visited on the trip.

We had lunch at The Olde Angel Inn, a cozy historic pub serving authentic British fare and draft ales. The atmosphere was warm and relaxed—exactly what we needed after a morning outdoors.

An 8th Birthday Dinner Above the Falls

Friday night was the main event—my youngest son’s 8th birthday dinner.

We celebrated at the rotating restaurant inside Skylon Tower, which slowly spins while you dine so you get a full panoramic view of Niagara Falls.

At night, the falls are illuminated in vibrant colors, and seeing them from that height made the experience feel extra special. My son absolutely loved it—it was the perfect birthday celebration.

Saturday: Hockey in Buffalo

Buffalo Sabres Hockey Game

On Saturday we drove back across the border to Buffalo for a completely different kind of adventure.

We stayed at Courtyard by Marriott Buffalo Downtown/Canalside, which is within walking distance of KeyBank Center.

That afternoon we watched the Buffalo Sabres take on the Florida Panthers.

But the best part?

Right before the game, arena staff asked if we wanted to stand in the tunnel and high-five the Sabres players as they went onto the ice.

My boys were in absolute heaven. It was one of those completely unexpected travel moments that becomes the highlight of the entire trip.

A Trip Full of Adventure and Unexpected Moments

Niagara Falls

This trip perfectly balanced natural wonder, family adventure, and a little bit of sports magic.

From the roar of Niagara Falls and the mist soaking us on the boat tour, to hiking along the Niagara Gorge, celebrating a birthday above the falls, and ending the trip high-fiving NHL players in Buffalo—it was a week packed with unforgettable moments.

Sometimes the best trips are the ones that combine awe-inspiring nature with the little surprises you never see coming. And for our family, Niagara Falls delivered both.
